Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival

These posters are kind of oldies but goodies! The Dragon Boat Races are pretty big here on the Island. In fact, my momma races in them every year. I'm on the list to race next year - I have a feeling they're going to kick my butt!

I did these posters while I was working at Impact Visual Communications. They were so much fun and a really great client to work for!

Bad Blogger

I am a bad, bad blogger. This past month has been a crazy one and I don't think I've picked up my sketchbook once. I moved from Victoria back to Nanaimo for work (found a GREAT job) and I've been busy unpacking and getting settled. No excuses though!

I'm working on an online store where you will be able to purchase everything from iPod skins to hoodies to prints of my illustrations. It's in the early stages but expect it to be launched within a month or so. In the meantime, I'm going to try to get a new sketch up at least every other day (provided I can get my scanner going)!

On that note, I leave you with an amazingly talented illustrator, Dave Mott who I just discovered on Dribbble. Check out that pencil work! Oh and if anyone has a Dribbble invite that they would like to share, hit me up (please)!!!

Have a cow, man.

It's a beautiful sunny day in Victoria, BC. The kind of day that's making me wish I had a yard, and a garden...maybe even some chickens and a cow? Ah, one day. One day.

It's all fun & games...

This project combined one of my most favourite things with one of my least favourite things - tree and bugs. Guess which is which! I did some simple drawings for an interactive, online, role playing game. Basically, the user, who is likely in the forestry industry, would end the game with either a healthy forest, or a plague of insects, based on their choices.

This was a fun job and I learned a lot. The only part I didn't like was having to look up photographs of actual bugs!

First. Post. Ever.

Welcome to my new blog! If you're reading this - my very first post - then you and I are probably facebook friends (as that is where I'll be flogging my posts). I intend for this blog to be a motivator for me, as illustrating is a skill that takes practice and should be done everyday if you want to perfect it! I plan on sharing my own work, but also the work of many other talented artists.

On that note, we recently said goodbye to Maurice Sendak. Sendak was best known for his book, Where the Wild Things Are. I had no idea it was first published so long ago - 1963! Hard to believe that when the book first came out, many parents were concerned by the "grotesque", fanged monsters! Personally, I think they're adorable (the movie versions a little less so). How great it is that he was around to see his book made into a film. RIP Sendak.
